Cadila Pharma strives to be an active and socially responsible organization. The company has supported various CSR initiatives in its community and beyond. Although 2021 brought with it even greater challenges than the previous year, Cadila remained resolute in fulfilling its corporate social responsibility while respecting COVID-19 guidelines.
Making charitable contributions is noble, but empowering the marginalized is one of our key area of focus. Today more than ever, there is a need to strengthen communities at the grassroots level and invest in people development – their health, well-being and livelihoods.
Here are the highlights of Cadila’s corporate social responsibility portfolio for the first quarter of 2021:
Cadila Pharma strongly believes in equality of opportunity and diversity and inclusion in the workplace. As part of corporate compliance and corporate social responsibility, Cadila collaborated with the Blind People’s Association and employed eight specially abled persons in its manufacturing plant in Dholka in early February.
Rural communities are closely bound to their cattle and the latter is an important agricultural and sustainable livelihood resource. Thus their well-being is necessary. On January 30th, Cadila Pharma in association with the Animal Husbandry department- Govt. of Gujarat, and the Ahmedabad District Panchayat organized a health camp for cattle in Bhat village. In the camp, the animals received a health check-up by veterinary doctors and were dewormed, administered mineral powder and prescribed the necessary medicines.
As a part of Model Village Development Approach, we launched health and livelihood initiatives on Women’s Day. Under this initiative, a haemoglobin check-up was done for 70 young girls in S.L. Patel School, Bhat, along with the distribution of Haem-up syrup – an iron supplement- in an effort to create awareness about anaemia. In association with the National Rural Livelihoods Mission, sessions on livelihood opportunities for women to become self-sufficient were held in Transad and Bhetawada.
Under the Model Village Initiative, Cadila has been working actively to increase green cover to protect the environment. This initiative has helped greatly in generating community participation, where the surrounding community members and village leaders are taking ownership to nurture the plants. During the period of Jan-Mar’21, 3766 tree saplings have been planted in and around the area.
On March 24th, under Cadila CSR’s Model Village scheme, 15 farmers from Bhat village were brought to CAD Agro (a Cadila group company) in Hirapur for an educational tour. The farmers were given information about scientific organic farming methods, tissue culture and use of bio-fertilizers. Support will also be given to the farmers who wish to continue in the program and learn modern farming techniques.
Cadila in association with Indrashil Kaka Ba & Kala Budh Public Charitable Trust set up a stitching centre in Chak Nanak village, Jammu. Six stitching machines were provided along with a trainer to facilitate training for 20 women. The center was inaugurated on April 8th.
From March 13-14, Cadila in association with Indrashil Kaka Ba & Kala Budh Public Charitable Trust held free medical camps in Transad and Bhat villages in which 850 people from 10 villages availed benefits. General surgeons, plastic surgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, general physicians and paramedical staff attended the visitors. Patients requiring further treatment were referred to Kaka-Ba Hospital in Hansot. The organization bore the travel and medical expenses for the same.
The ongoing pandemic has had devastating consequences and the world as we know it has undergone a paradigm shift. However, now more than ever, it is important to maintain the focus on what matters regardless of the challenges. Cadila Pharmaceuticals Ltd is proud to work across the spectrum of community development and people empowerment even in challenging times.
